functional capacity assessments.

A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA), sometimes referred to as a Functional Capability Assessment, is a comprehensive evaluation used to determine an individual's functional abilities and limitations in performing everyday activities. This type of assessment is particularly relevant in contexts involving disability, injury, or illness.

The purpose of functional capacity assessments are to determine the individual’s current abilities and limitations in various aspects of daily life. This involves evaluating how well they can perform tasks related to personal care, mobility, communication, social interaction, work, and leisure activities.

It also assists in identifying the support needs and highlights the areas where the person may require assistance or support. This includes identifying any deficits in physical, cognitive, or emotional functioning that impact their daily living.

From this information we develop a plan and create a strategy to help the individual achieve their personal goals and improve their overall functionality. This plan may include recommendations for assistive devices, environmental modifications, specific therapies, or other interventions aimed at enhancing the individual's ability to perform daily activities and improve their quality of life.

By focusing on these goals, a Functional Capacity Assessment helps to provide a clear and detailed understanding of an individual's functional abilities and needs, guiding the development of targeted support and interventions.

cognitive and sensory assessments.

Both cognitive and sensory assessments are essential components of a comprehensive evaluation process. While cognitive assessments focus on mental processes, sensory assessments address how sensory input affects behavior and learning. Together, they provide a holistic view of an individual's strengths and challenges, guiding the development of personalized intervention plans to enhance overall well-being and functionality.

home modifications.

Home modifications are custom-built changes to a participant’s home to help them access and use various areas more easily and safely. These changes can range from minor adjustments to more complex renovations, aiming to facilitate daily tasks and improve independence for individuals who are living with disabilities.

By thoughtfully planning and implementing home modifications with our Occupational Therapists, individuals who are living with disabilities can significantly enhance their quality of life, gaining greater independence and safety in their daily activities.

Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession that focuses on enabling participation in everyday activities through ongoing assessments and tailored interventions. Our Occupational therapists evaluate what activities individuals can do, what they want to do, their current limitations, and their goals and motivations. They provide advice and techniques to help individuals perform tasks more easily and safely, with the aim of maximizing independence and enhancing overall well-being. Working within the community, occupational therapists support people in achieving greater participation in daily life, thereby improving their functional outcomes and quality of life.

home and living assessments SIL/ILO/SDA.

We aim to provide the best support options for your home, both now and in the long term, and can help explain the different home and living supports available. We will work with you to find the optimal mix of supports to help you live as independently as possible.

Clients with complex needs often require modified spaces for independent living. Our OT SDA and SIL Functional Assessments document eligibility for NDIS funding to strengthen applications and facilitate solutions for independent living.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is designed for individuals with very high support needs or extreme functional impairment, featuring accessible elements for greater independence. Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides the necessary supports for living independently, either in shared or individual arrangements, for those with high support needs. Our goal is to enhance living conditions and independence for these individuals.

This support helps children navigate their environments more effectively and engage in meaningful activities that promote their development and independence.

Our Occupational Therapists are highly experienced in a wide range of disorders including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), global development delay (GDD), cerebral palsy, learning delays, emotional regulation.  We support children in reaching developmental milestones, such as improving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and managing sensory sensitivities and behavioral challenges.

Through evidence-based practice, we provide a collaborative and nurturing environment that fosters growth and well-being for both you and your child.
